Groundwork Analytics was founded in 2018 by Dr. Mehrdad Shirangi — Stanford PhD in energy systems optimization and former AI Transformation & Technology Leader at Baker Hughes. Since then he’s been bringing AI, generative AI, and now AI agents to the oil & gas industry.
The difference: every engagement is founder-led. Mehrdad sets the technical direction, stays directly engaged with the operators we serve, and brings in a hand-picked network of senior engineers and specialists when an engagement needs them. No slide-deck consulting. No anonymous hand-offs.
On the open-source side, we maintain petropt (the petroleum engineering toolkit) and petro-mcp (the MCP server that brings it to AI assistants). They power the workflow suites at tools.petropt.com and the petroleum engineering AI tools many engineers already use.
